Snowflake Bentley is a classic that most children hear by the time they are out of elementary school, but that doesn't mean that it's entirely out of date. (Sometimes when we hear "classic" we think of difficult reading or old-fashioned mindsets.) This is a story we can spin about finding beauty in the little things, a story about persistance, and a story about making art. I pair this with a non-fiction about snowflakes and we usually create an art project afterwards. It's a great start to our library science biography unit, too, coming right at mid-year.
